There’s a fire outside of the station window, rolling up the mountainside.  Not the kind of fire we EMS have to respond to.  The kind that moves ever so slowly, leaf by bush by dried grass until the summer dust is overtaken by yellows and reds.  Watching autumn come in is my favorite for several reasons.

One, it’s beautiful.  Clearly.  Fall storms come in and give texture to the sky that has been flat and blue for most of the summer.  The temperatures drop and I can wear sweaters and hats and I like those very much.  The horses get silly with the wind in their ears and snow dusts and melts all in the same day.  It’s the breath before winter.

And it means I get to go travel.

Winter means I’m a ski patroller, summer means I’m building mountain bike trails, and all times in between I work on an ambulance.  But in the fall (and the occasional spring) I’m a traveler.

This fall it’s off on a road trip through the Baja Peninsula of Mexico.  I get the feeling the drive down south will grant me fall in reverse, passing back into summer.  When I return it’ll be winter.  At least it ought to be.

I’m just getting this blog off of the ground, so thanks for stopping by!  I aim to make regular updates along the way south.  Stick around to hear about beaches and snorkeling and hiking and food!
